Belt holsters are also referred to as outside the waistband and cannot be worn without a belt. Belt holsters have many functions such as deceive, normal range use, shooting competitions, and field use. They are usually the most popular and are worn on the side of the shooting hand. Let’s say you purchase one for $80 carry it 15 times a month for the next three years, or 180 times per year. That would be a total of 540 times you’ve wore your holster. Each time you use it, the cost per use gets cheaper as time goes on. After those 540 times, it will most likely still be functional and have a good retention rate! Most holsters in this range are adjustable, so you will be able to adjust the retention if needed in the future. The cost per use if you spent $180 and wore it 540 times would be $0.15 per use or three nickels.

Let’s say you went with a cheap $40 Glock 43 holster and it wore out after a year. You would have only wore it 180 times that year, which would cost you about $0.22 per use. That’s not much more than the one listed above, but you have to realize there is a compromise in quality.

While the cheaper Glock 43 holster is only 7 cents more per use, you’d be forced to spend more money on another holster once it wears out. If you bought the same one for another $40, now you’re at $80 and you would now be at $0.44 per use.
