Sig Sauer’s P320 and SP2022

Sig Sauer has finally joined the world of polymer pistols. Both of the models discussed here have a plastic, polymer modular frame combined with the high-quality features you have come to expect from a Sig gun.

Sig Sauer began releasing polymer frame pistols in 1998 with the SP 2340. Like the other big gun manufacturers, they were succumbing to the pressure put on by Glock’s enormous success in the United States. The SP 2002 joined Sig’s polymer line in 2002. This pistol was originally designed for law enforcement agencies in France. And, in a tale now synonymous with the gun, was supposed to last twenty years in service—hence the name 2022.READ MORE BELOW on Specs, Models, and Diagram

Sig Sauer P320 and  SP2022 Review

The P320, on the other hand, was released in 2014. It, like the SP2022, is a polymer framed pistol, but instead of Sig’s classic DA/SA trigger, it is striker-fired. In fact, the P320 is Sig’s first striker-fired pistol. As can be seen below, it comes in a variety of calibers and sizes, but because of the polymer frame retains a cheaper cost than its alloy-framed counterparts.

            Models and Specs

As with other P series pistols, Sig has included a lot of design options with the P320. The SP2022 has only two designs to choose from. Read on to learn more about the important specs and designs of these two pistols.

Features

The P320 and SP2022 share many features even though some—like their trigger systems—are completely different. Here are some of the most important.

            Grip

The use of a polymer frame helps to keep everything about these pistols modular. In fact, the “frame” is made up of a stainless-steel skeleton that fits within the polymer grip. Thus, both pistols include interchangeable backstraps (small, medium, and large) that allow you to customize the grip to your specific hand. The shape of the grip hasn’t changed much from the famous P series pistols, but the flexibility is an important update.

            Trigger

The trigger mechanisms vary between the P320 and the SP2022. The SP2022 includes the DA/SA trigger common to most of Sig Sauer’s pistols. The trigger on the SP2022 is very similar to the P226 and others of the P series. As with other DA/SA pistols, you need to enjoy this trigger, or at least practicing with this trigger, to fully appreciate the gun.

The P320, on the other hand, has a striker-fired trigger that breaks at around 7 lbs.Because there is no DA pull, the trigger does not require a huge take-up, which many reviewers have noted positively. However, some reviewers dislike that lack of crisp pull that you receive from the P320 trigger.

            Accuracy

Sig Sauer is renowned for the accuracy of their guns. While you may be concerned about the plastic inclusion in these two pistols, don’t worry. The inclusion of the internal firing mechanisms in the stainless-steel chassis helps keep them up to Sig standards. Sig’s inclusion of night, combat, and dovetailed rear sights help keep the pistols’ accuracy high.

Why Buy?

When you buy a Sig Sauer gun you are receiving a high quality, resilient, and accurate firearm. What makes the SP 2022 and P320 stand out is their significantly lower price than other Sig guns. The polymer frame helps lower the price, which could run as low as $400 on the street. This opens the door for more people to afford a Sig. If you want a Sig pistol but don’t have the money for an alloy model, or just want a versatile and high functioning gun, then we recommend you take a close look at the SP 2002 and P320.
